Hi folks! I'm Farihah Aliyah Shah, a Canadian lens-based artist in Bradford and Toronto, Ontario originally from Edmonton, Alberta. I hold a BFA in Photography with a minor in Integrated Media from OCAD University in Toronto, Ontario. My practice explores identity formation through racial, land and collective memory. The work you'll see here is some of travel and documentary related series. I'm a member of Gallery 44 and Women Photograph and have exhibited internationally in North America, Asia and Europe.

Favourite book

The Pearl by John Steinbeck. This has been my favourite book since I was roughly 12 or 13. I'm learning Spanish and recently purchased a version of it in Spanish.

What artists do you admire right now?

Eve Tagny, Sarah Pannell, Lelia Fatimi, & Timothy Yanick Hunter - among others.

What kind of artwork do you have in your home?

I have a modest fine art photography collection of friends and fellow artist as well as a few illustrations hanging in my home currently.

Favourite medium

Photography - which I'll admit is completely biased since I am a photographer. I love the versatility of the medium, film, digital collage, and historical processes. There is a lot output options with photography.

How long have you been creating art?

I have been creating art for about 16 years and have been doing it professionally for the past 10 - 11 years.
